This is an image of the open star cluster NGC7789 in the constellation, Cassiopeia that was taken on December 28, 2006 . This open cluster is a less well known than M11 in Scutum. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful example of an open cluster. It lies 3 degrees southwest of Beta Cassiopeia, Caph, the most western star of the famous "W." It is magnitude 6.7 in apparent brightness and has a diameter of 25 arcminutes, which corresponds to a physical size of 44 light-years in diameter. The cluster is about 6,000 light-years distant and contains 583 stars. Something not appreciated in this image is that there multiple complex dark nebulae apparent in wide-field views of the area.
